ScholarshipsThe Foundation administers six scholarship programs for persons pursuing continuing education in health-related fields.Wanda Brown ScholarshipThe Wanda Brown Scholarship fund was established in 1999 with a gift from Wanda A. Brown of Harrisonville. Mrs. Brown, a former board member of the Memorial Hospital Association, a member of the Cass Regional Auxiliary, and an active community volunteer, established the fund to support persons pursuing a nursing career.Elvin S. Douglas, Jr., ScholarshipMr. Douglas was one of the first appointees to the hospital Board of Trustees when the hospital opened in the early 1960s, and he served on the board for over 25 years. In honor of his service, friends and colleagues established the scholarship fund in 1985 to assist Cass County high school graduates and residents who are pursuing higher education in the health professions. Dr. Harold E. Kirsch Memorial ScholarshipDr. Kirsch was a beloved family physician who cared for generations of Cass Countians until his death in 1977. His widow, Evelyn, passed away in 2003 and established the scholarship fund with a gift from her estate. Two scholarships are awarded annually from the fund - one for Cass Regional employees and one for Cass County high school graduates - to support persons pursuing education in the field of healthcare. Geraldine Kidd ScholarshipGeraldine "Gerri" Kidd was an LPN at Cass Regional Medical Center for over 20 years, and was highly regarded by all who worked with her. After her passing in 1995, her colleagues, family and friends established the scholarship in her memory to support persons pursuing continuing education in nursing or in an allied health care field. Franceline Parris ScholarshipThe first Franceline Parris Scholarship was given in 2005 by Franceline Parris, a member of the Cass Regional Auxiliary. At her request, the scholarship is given to support Cass Regional employees and/or graduating students from Harrisonville High School who are pursuing education in a healthcare-related field. Jan Perry ScholarshipThe Jan Perry Scholarship was established in 2002 by Jan Perry, a member of the Cass Regional Auxiliary. Mrs. Perry provided the funds for the scholarship each year by saving a little of her grocery money each week. After her passing in 2007, her husband, Wirt, gave additional gifts to establish a long-term scholarship fund. Two scholarships - one for Cass Regional employees and one for Cass County residents - are awarded annually to persons pursuing education in nursing or in an allied health field. |
