Meet Our Staff

Liz Whelan, RN, BA, MSN, CDE, directs our Diabetes Self-Management Education program, and is a certified diabetes educator. She has over 25 years of experience in nursing, and her expertise includes critical care.  She holds two certificates in lifestyle and weight management coaching from NESTA (national exercise and sports trainers association) and Cooper Institue. She is the BLS coordinator for Cass Regional Medical Center and the American Heart Association as well as an Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced Live Support (PALS) instructor. Her professional memberships include the American Association of Diabetes Educators (AADE).

Barbara Walters, RN, CDE, is an instructor in our Diabetes Self-Management Education (DSME) program, having retired from the director role in 2011. Barbara has over 40 years of experience as a registered nurse, and has been a certified diabetes educator (CDE) for nearly 20 years. Prior to that, she was an intensive care nurse, and is a certified instructor of both Basic Life Support (BLS), and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS). She is a member of the Kansas City Regional Association of Diabetes Educators and the American Association of Diabetes Educators (AADE).

Rebecca McConville, MS, RD, LD, is our registered and licensed dietitian. She is a member of the Kansas City Dietetic Association, the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, and the Academy's SCAN (Sports, Cardiovascular, and Wellness Nutrition) group. Rebecca is also certified in adult and pediatric weight management by the Academy.
