Meet Our Staff

Doctors
Cass Regional has a partnership with the doctors of Health Care Associates Emergency Physicians (HCAEP), LLC, to provide emergency services to our patients. The doctors from HCAEP who will primarily be working at Cass Regional's Emergency Department include A.R. May III, DO; Jeffrey M. VanBiber, MD; Mary R. Coltharp, MD; Glenn W. Simon, DO; and Jeffrey Girkin, MD. 

Randy Kellenberger, DO, is the medical director of Cass Regional's Emergency Department. He has a bachelor of science and master of science degree in secondary education, and a master of business administration in accounting from Kansas State University. Dr. Kellengerger received his medical degree from Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine and is board certified in emergency medicine with over 25 years of experience. 

Jeffrey VanBiber, MD, is a second-generation doctor who followed the footsteps of his father, a pediatrician. Dr.VanBiber has an extensive background in family medicine and enjoys caring for patients of all ages. He holds a bachelor's degree in biology with a minor in chemistry from Graceland College, and received his medical degree from American University of the Caribbean School of Medicine. 

Glenn W. Simon, MD, holds a doctor of chiropractic medicine degree from Cleveland Chiropractic College; a master's degree from the University of Bridgeport (Conn.); and a medical degree from Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences. He completed his residency at the University of Kansas School of Medicine-Wichita, and is board-certified in family medicine.

Jeffrey Girkin, MD, received his bachelor of arts in chemistry from Drury University, and medical degree from the University of Arkansas, College of Medicine. He completed a three year residency in Emergency Medicine at Truman Medical Center and is board-certified. He is a member of the Information Medical Advisory Committee for the Medical Center of Independence, a member of the Carondelet Information Technology Committee and a Compliance Officer and Information Technology Officer for the Medical Emergency Associates, LLC.

Emergency Department Staff
   
Vi Warren, RN, BSN, is the Emergency Department nurse manager. Warren has over 30 years of nursing experience, and has been the nurse manager in Cass Regional's Emergency Department for 27 years. She has also been an instructor for the American Heart Association for over 20 years. Warren is certified in BLS, PALS adn ACLS, and was selected as Cass Regional's Employee of the Year for 2005.

Cass Regional's Emergency Department staff has over 200 years of experience in emergency care. The staff is made up of registered nurses (RNs), licensed practical nurses (LPNs), certified nursing assistants (CNAs) and emergency medical technicians (EMTs). All staff members are required to be certified in Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS). However, all RNs and LPNs are also required to be certified in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), and must complete the Trauma Nurse Core Course. Some of our nursing staff have completed the Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner course, and the entire RN staff completed the National Institute of Health Stroke Scale Administration (NIHSS) course, which is a certification for scoring the severity of stroke. Staff members have completed the Emergency Management Institute training titles IS-100, 200, 700 and 800, which is the Incident Command System and National Incident Management for Disaster Preparedness. The entire RN staff is currently working to complete Triage First, which is a crucial course to help determine and treat patients based on the severity of their illness.
