Physical/Occupational TherapyCass Regional's Physical/Occupational Therapy Department consists of highly-trained therapists who help patients regain function and mobility after illness or inury. Treatment includes various forms of exercise, gait training, and therapeutic techniques. Our Therapy Department also offers a variety of modalities to help treat our patients. Electrical stimulation (E-Stim) is one of the modalities we choose to use to help strengthen muscles. E-Stim increases the blood supply to the injured area/s, which helps with the healing process. Another modality we utilize is ultrasound. Ultrasound consists of high or low frequency sound waves, which are transmitted through a machine to surrounding tissue and vasculature. These waves penetrate the muscles to cause deep tissue/muscle warming. This promotes tissue relaxation and is useful in treating muscle tightness and spasms. The warming effect of the sound waves also causes vessel vasodilatation and increases circulation to the area, which assists in healing. Our therapists can also adjust the frequency on the machine to use waves that will decrease inflammation. |
