Sunderland Foundation Grant Supports Community Trail Project
The Sunderland Foundation has awarded a $50,000 grant to Cass Regional Medical Center Foundation to support construction of The Floyd and Franceline Parris Community Trail on land behind the Cass Regional campus.
The trail is slated for construction later this year. When completed, it will consist of two quarter-mile loops that will wind through a natural setting. The trail will be paved, allowing access for those who use assistive devices such as walkers and wheelchairs.
“We deeply appreciate the Sunderland Foundation’s significant investment in The Floyd and Franceline Parris Community Trail,” said Sonya McLelland, administrative director of Cass Regional Medical Center Foundation. “With this grant, the Sunderland Foundation continues to demonstrate its commitment to improving the strength and vibrancy of communities it serves.”
The Sunderland Foundation was established in 1945 by Lester T. Sunderland, who served as president of the Ash Grove Cement Company for 33 years. Since its inception, the Foundation, which continues to be led by Lester T. Sunderland's descendants, has focused on supporting construction projects, awarding grants to nonprofits in the Kansas City region and other markets traditionally served by the Ash Grove Cement Company.
