Cass Regional welcomes new chief nursing officer

Cass Regional is pleased to welcome Jay Sebelien, MBA, BSN, RN, as the new chief nursing officer (CNO), effective Sept. 20. He replaced CNO Twila Buckner, who retired.

Sebelien earned a Bachelor of Science in nursing from William Jewell College and a Master of Business Administration from Benedictine College. He previously worked for the Surgicenter of Johnson County, where he spent 14 years as its administrator, chief executive officer, and its ethics and compliance officer.

Buckner concludes career at Cass Regional after 12 years

Chief Nursing Officer Twila Buckner, RN, BSN, MBA, NE-BC, has retired after more than 12 years at Cass Regional Medical Center.

Buckner joined the leadership team of Cass Regional in February 2009. She helped guide the hospital's clinical departments through the transition from the old hospital facility to the current one. During her tenure, Cass Regional experienced significant growth, including being designated a Level III Trauma Center and being certified as an Acute Stroke Ready hospital.

Buckner earned a Bachelor of Science in nursing from William Jewell College and a Master of Business Administration with a certificate in health services management from the Keller Graduate School of Management in Kansas City. Buckner also holds certification as a nurse administrator.

Buckner started her career as a registered nurse. She also held positions as a nurse manager, director of critical care and cardiac rehabilitation, and director of resource management.

Dr. VanBiber concludes career after 16 years at Cass Regional

Emergency physician Jeffrey VanBiber, MD, has retired after 16 years at Cass Regional Medical Center.

Dr. VanBiber received his bachelor's degree in biology from Graceland College and his medical degree from American University of the Caribbean School of Medicine.

Before joining Cass Regional Medical Center, Dr. VanBiber was a family practice physician in Butler for 18 years.

"When I first started at Cass Regional Medical Center, I loved how everyone treated each other like family," said Dr. VanBiber. "That's rare to find in a workplace. Keep fighting for that!"

In his spare time, Dr. VanBiber enjoys spending time with his wife and family, handcrafting pottery, biking, and volunteering at his church. His plans for retirement are to travel, explore different avenues of pottery and learn how to not stress eat!
